Getting to Know: Kilballyowen Development CLG

1: When was your group founded?

Kilballyowen Dev CLG was founded in 2002 when we changed from Cross/Kilbaha Dev Group.

2: Could you give us a brief history and description of your group?

The group was founded in 2002 as the local Development group for Cross/Kilbaha Villages and their environs. We are a small working committee with a wider group of Special Interest volunteers.   We have Directors, a Chairman,  a secretary,  a treasurer and an assistant Secretary.

Each Special Interest Group (SIG) have members which link directly back to the main committee regularly with Finance and Development updates.

We are a registered Charity. 

3: What would you describe as being the organisation’s role in the community?

The role of Kilballyowen Dev CLG is to help promote and carry out development in the community which specifically improves the quality of life for locals and visitors to the area.

It is also our role to maintain all local attractions and improve the area environmentally, economically where possible, and socially.

To help develop the area so that people can live and work here.

5: What is the best part of being a group / club / organisation on Loop Head?

The constant support and appreciation of our community and family members living out of the area.

6: What are the group’s current challenges? i.e.  fundraising? Volunteers? New Members? Others?

Volunteers and New members.

7: In an ideal world, where would you like to see the group / club / organisation in 5 years- time?
Having at least 5 new young, enthusiastic and willing people to help an aging committee improve our objectives.

8: What is your group working on/towards right now?

Currently we are working on the day to day activities of local development, also the running of our not for profit enterprise ‘Loop Head Cottage’ self catering rental - the renovation taking place of Halla Eoin Community Centre in Kilbaha and the renovation around the Cross Digital Hub and Community Spaces in Cross Village.

9: What is the best way to connect with your group for the purpose of enrolling, joining or generally volunteering?
