Loop Head shines in Europe
‘The Loop Head Peninsula, catapulted onto the European Stage in terms of its progressive and forward-thinking farming community’.
NEWS: An exciting Horizon EU project has chosen the Loop Head Peninsula, under the guiding arm of Loop Head Together CLG to be a host community as part of a ‘Living Labs’ project to work with interested farmers, in exploring soil management practices that will not only help to regenerate and benefit the quality of the soil but will also be of economic value and benefit to the farmer and their land.
Following on from the success of the Hemp4Soil Project, and the peninsula thereafter winning the National Climate Action award as a result, ‘Loop Head’ has now been catapulted onto the European stage in terms of having a cohesive, progressive and forward-thinking farming community, who want to embrace sustainable soil management practices while ensuring that their farms continue to thrive.
The official name for the project is ‘Soilcrates’.
Only three communities in all of Ireland have been chosen to be a part of this research project, involving what they are calling a ‘Cluster of Living Labs’. Those three communities are: Ballyhoura, Cloughjordan and the Loop Head Peninsula.
Loop Head Together CLG will assist those farmers interested in partaking in the project, and, in the administration, delivery and management of the project over the coming four years.
Soilcrates has officially kicked off in the Netherlands with a three-day conference this week – and Loop Head Together CLG are thrilled to be a partner on this exciting, forward-thinking initiative.

HORIZON EU | SOILCRATES: Soil Innovation Labs: Co-Regenerating and Transforming European Soils
This project is at the very early stages – discussions with interested farmers will follow in the coming months, to learn about what soil issues (be it decarbonizing, soil quality, or drainage etc) they are most interested to solve and what sustainable practices might be explored to help solve them.
Loop Head Together CLG, will be working with experts from TUS, our local farming community and local government, to help deliver this project.
